As employees and contractors are now using their devices outside the network, the nature of threats has also evolved. Because of this, the network perimeter has evolved outside the bounds of the traditional enterprise model.
As more and more breaches are now occurring through the network due the growing adoption of mobile devices and apps, point security solutions must now consume and interpret detailed context about the user, mobile device and application usage to ensure the enterprise is now secured against new and emerging cyber threats.
The value of context during the authentication phase is now more valuable as mobility and BYOD deployments become pervasive. The ability for a firewall to leverage this data now allows firewall policies to enforce accurate policies based on user, device and group information. It's like going from analog to HD tv when watching this year's Superbowl.
