Accelerating Your Network into the Future

Networking is in the midst of a major market transition. This started on the edge when mobile computing became the primary way users communicate. As wireless increased bandwidth to multiple gigabit speeds, users cut their cables and started using mobile devices more and more. This led to a huge increase in the amount of data being consumed from services such as video. This has had a hugely disruptive effect on the network edge.

The data center network is seeing a very similar transformation. Alongside mobile-first, enterprises are starting to look at a cloud-first organizational shift. Applications are the driver for infrastructure to converge and for traditional silos to disappear. The need for greater operational efficiency and increased automation means that enterprises must shrink their data center footprint and increase the density of the services offered. In turn, that means more virtual machines per server, more servers per rack, and more bandwidth to ensure everything communicates as fast as possible.

Over the past few years, organizations adopted 10GbE and 40GbE to address the increase in East/West traffic patterns that are now prevalent in virtualized deployments. But new compute models like containers and flash storage require even more bandwidth than we could have imagined years ago.  Line of Business Managers are demanding that IT support a more flexible infrastructure that is more responsive and aligned to business imperatives, and this manifests itself with the need for rapid and reliable application provisioning, with the network supporting, rather than dictating, and SLA.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is leading the way in this new world of IT with the announcement of 25/100GbE switches and network interface cards (NICs) for servers. This means that the full potential of single-lane 25Gbps can be realized today from the compute stack through the network. Communications between servers can achieve up to 56% more bandwidth while reducing complexity, power usage, and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). Applications like Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and high-speed Ethernet-connected flash storage can use this increased bandwidth to provide data to applications faster than ever.

Our HPE 25/100GbE solution spans our servers, network adapters, transceivers, cables and Ethernet switches – all designed and tested to deliver the industry's most comprehensive 25/100 networking ecosystem enabling end-end 25GbE server connectivity across a 100GbE data center network fabric.

The transition to 25Gbps doesn't have to cost your organization a fortune to implement. It is likely that thanks to the hard work and investment that was made in the upgrade to 10GbE, existing fiber cabling infrastructure is already prepared for 25GbE. This will help drive adoption quickly at much lower costs than 10GbE. In fact, Sameh Boujelbene of Dell'Oro Group says that 25GbE will "comprise over a third of server access ports within three years of shipments."

Networking is transitioning at both the edge and the core. Users are asking the network to support more and more bandwidth-intensive applications. These needs are forcing organizations to look at holistic solutions that can provide end-to-end connectivity at the fastest possible speeds while still meeting the needs of application-focused computing. Hewlett Packard Enterprise is the first company to offer a true holistic branded solution for single-lane 25Gbps in the data center. Let us help you accelerate your network into the future.
